Queen Theater
Honolulu city used to have many more independent movie theaters than it does now. That’s what I heard from people who know the old Hawaii.
Unfortunately, many of the old theaters have disappeared. But some theaters are still standing even though they have been abandoned for decades. Queen theater on Waialae is one of them.
Last Saturday, the theater celebrated its 75th anniversary. The Friends of Queen Theater invited people to join in the celebration by cleaning it up. The Friends are attempting to restore the theater.

Since I’m a big fan of Hawaii’s old buildings, I went to the theater to show my support. People were asked to write what they want to do with the theater on stickers and put the stickers on the theater wall.

It is uncertain whether the restoration project will be a success, but I wish it the best of luck! With the community support I saw, I have high hopes.
